Your gift today can help someone experience the joy and adventure of summer camp.

For 11-year old Prentyce, Camp Horizon has become a place of sleepovers, dancing and her favourite grape-flavoured drink. In just two summers as a camper, Prentyce knows exactly what to expect when she arrives for a week of adventure with her friends.

Her parents fondly remember dropping her off for her second summer at camp. As soon as her mom, Christy, finished setting up her bed and toys, Prentyce gently pushed her toward the door and said, “Okay, time for you to go.” When her father, Jamie, arrived to pick her up at the end of the week, Prentyce excitedly greeted him then promptly burst into tears, heartbroken that camp was over. “That was hard for me,” Jamie says. “I knew how much those five days meant to her.”

The impact of Camp Horizon lasts long after camp ends. Christy sees a new confidence and independence when Prentyce returns home, along with the joy and anticipation of returning each year to a community that’s beginning to feel like family.

Diagnosed with the rare genetic condition DDX3X Syndrome at age three, Prentyce has worked with physical, speech, and occupational therapists since infancy. For her parents, the idea of her attending camp once seemed impossible. At Camp Horizon, she experiences the magic of a typical camp life: sleeping in a bunk bed, eating meals with her friends, and climbing Alberta’s only accessible high-ropes course . These are memories she might never have had the chance to make.

Every day, the staff at Camp Horizon surround Prentyce with kindness, understanding, and encouragement, ensuring her needs are met while giving families peace of mind. “As a parent, we love our kids with all our hearts,” Jamie says. “With Camp Horizon, it gives parents a bit of a break from all the extras we have to do for and with our children. It’s important to my daughter. It’s important to us. Camp Horizon matters.”

For families like Prentyce’s, Camp Horizon is more than a week away from home; it’s a place of life-changing impact and lifelong connections and memories. Campers can push the boundaries of their independence without barriers and live joyfully without limits.

For nearly 75 years, Easter Seals Alberta has provided transformative and inclusive experiences for Albertans living with disabilities and medical conditions, allowing them to dream bigger than they ever thought possible. We provide these essential programs and resources to empower these individuals to explore independence and build confidence while they work and play.

Thanks to your generosity, over 600 campers passed through the gates of Camp Horizon in 2025, and today, you can help us prepare to welcome even more campers in 2026.

Please give a gift to Easter Seals Alberta today so we can continue to forge a path forward towards adventure and freedom at Camp Horizon for people with disabilities and medical conditions.

Your support enriches the life of Prentyce, as well as the lives of everyone who will access a safe, inclusive space all year long because of your generosity. Together, we are building lives filled with joy and possibility.
